CANKER SORE! Treatment? Yes!

Most of us have experienced the pain and discomfort of canker sores, also known as mouth ulcers. These are small, shallow, painful sores that appear, often unaccountably, inside the mouth. Is there a natural remedy? A treatment? Yes!

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the medical term used when this condition is experienced persistently. It is characterized by the repeated formation of benign and non-contagious mouth ulcers in otherwise healthy individuals.

The condition is very common, affecting about 20% of the general population. Painful and troublesome canker sores usually occur on the inside of the cheeks but can develop anywhere within the mouth.

Apparently, it is somewhat of a medical mystery. There are a lot of theories but the truth is, no one knows for certain, though it is thought to be multifactorial.

Possible triggers for canker sore formation may include:

  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Mouth injuries — trauma to the oral mucosa, caused by lip or cheek chewing
  • Stress
  • Hormonal influences
  • Genetic dispositions
  • Food allergies
  • Toothpastes that contain sodium lauryl sulphate, a commonly use foaming agent
  • Possibly of bacterial origin

For most, the condition resolves itself without too much concern (other than the pain and discomfort of); for others, however, the problem, including the pain, can be seriously debilitating and affect overall health.

“There is a spectrum of severity, with symptoms ranging from a nuisance to disabling. Due to pain during eating, weight loss may develop as a result of not eating in severe cases of aphthous stomatitis. Usually, the condition lasts for several years before spontaneously disappearing in later life.” Wikipedia

Commercially available over-the-counter treatments, of which there are many, are basically formulated to numb canker sore pain via a topical application of benzocaine. They do not do anything to heal the sore itself, nor do they discourage the creation of the canker in the first place.

ZiiNGLES’ principal herb is fresh, organically grown-in-the-USA Spilanthes acmella, commonly known as spilanthes and also known as “the toothache plant.” Spilanthes has been used traditionally by indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon for hundreds, if not thousands, of years for alleviating oral problems and maintaining a healthy, pain-free mouth. We are very fortunate to be able to bring to you this potent ancient herbal in our unique formulation.

Recent scientific studies confirm what indigenous knowledge asserts — spilanthes is a plant with high therapeutic potential, especially in terms of oral health.

Spilanthes effectively numbs the pain associated with canker sores, extremely quickly and with no undesirable side effects. It also provides a natural antibiotic action which adds to its healing effect. Combined with the other supportive herbs found in ZiiNGLES, you can be assured of a synergistically effective treatment for your canker sore issues.

But don’t just take our word for it — take a read from ‘Treatments for Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis’ published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Therapies:

“One of our favorite herbs for treating aphthous ulcers is Spilanthes acmella (spilanthes; also known as Acmella oleracea) flowers. This is a South American plant that has been the subject of very little research and none of what was done pertained to RAS…The advantage spilanthes confers is that it appears to speed wound healing while providing substantial pain relief, which is the key component (at least from the patient’s point of view) in treating acute ulcers. In fact, the numbing effect is so fast and strong that most patients do well by applying the undiluted tincture directly on their ulcers…”
